My 2016 Travel Wish List

by Carrie McLaren with 1 comment

As we begin another year, my travel wish list is already filled with hopes of exploring new destinations, enjoying a few, relaxing trips (the beach!!) and getting my fill of plenty of theme parks too.

Here’s a look at what’s tops on my 2016 travel wish list –

My 2016 Travel Wish List - blog

Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

Carnival Cruise Line newest port, Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, debuted in late 2015 and I’m itching to see it in 2016. Located just outside of Puerto Plata, this port is said to feature some of the most extensive shore excursions available for cruise lovers.

For some family fun, the nearby Ocean World sounds like a great way for little ones to experience marine life. There’s snorkeling and diving opportunities available too! And while I love excursions, I’m mostly excited to check out the bungalows available for rent at the port and that massive pool area too! The port also features a marketplace, themed restaurants and bars – all within the restricted areas for passengers.

Asheville, North Carolina

This year will mark fifteen years since I graduated from Mars Hill College (now University), just outside of Asheville. It’s a city that I called home for four years and a place that my girls have only visited once. I’m missing the mountains -and my friends – and I’m hoping that 2016 will be the year that we make it to visit my old stomping grounds.

I’m ready for my girls to experience the Blue Ridge Parkway and see the views from the Pisgah Inn – along with a tasty lunch too. Graveyard Fields and a stop at the Biltmore Estate are high on my list. It’s been too long since I’ve seen the leaves change colors.

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

Universal Orlando’s fifth on-site resort – Loews Sapphire Falls Resort – opens this summer featuring a Caribbean vibe with a modern feel. It will also be home to Universal Orlando’s largest on-site, zero-entry pool at 16,000 square-feet, with a white sand beach, water slide, cabanas and a fire pit. Not to mention – easy access to the parks and Universal CityWalk too.

Dining options will include Amatista Cookhouse, a Caribbean-inspired restaurant with open exhibition kitchen and outdoor dining; Strong Water Tavern, a destination lobby lounge overlooking the hotel’s towering waterfalls and offering a tapas-style menu. Sounds pretty fantastic to me – I’m ready to go!

St. Petersburg, Florida

As a huge Disney fan, I was instantly intrigued when I learned that the Disney and Dali: Architects of Imagination exhibit was coming to the Dali Museum in St. Pete January 23 – June 12, 2016.

This exhibit is said to explore each of the masterminds views of art and reality along with a look at their collaboration of incomplete animated short. There are complimentary audio guides available too – just like having your own personal tour guide.

I’m also hoping to squeeze in a visit to my favorite watering hole – 3 Daughters Brewing. This local brewery features a variety of beers brewed on-site, local food trucks and even a mini-golf course for the little ones (and adults too!) Pro Tip: Try the Beach Blonde Ale – it’s my favorite!

What’s on your travel wish list for the new year? I’m sure my list will grow as the year progresses, but I’m excited to see where the year takes me.

Happy New Year to you! Here’s wishing you a year of travels and adventure!
