My 2017 Travel Wish List

by Carrie McLaren with 2 comments

As we begin another year, my travel wish list is already filled with hopes of exploring new destinations, enjoying a few, relaxing trips (the beach!!) and getting my fill of plenty of theme parks too.

Here’s a look at what’s tops on my 2017 travel wish list –

My 2017 Travel Wish List - blog

Charleston, SC

My husband and I are huge fans of BravoTV’s Top Chef series and this season is based in Charleston, South Carolina. It has been at least ten years since my last visit (except for that quick ‘up and back’ trip last year to see Garth Brooks in concert. Ha!) and after seeing so many great spots on television over the last few weeks, I’m ready to go back again.

Husk Restaurant and eating a ton of oysters are tops on my ‘to do’ list. Great Southern food, historic sites and we could easily make it a weekend trip. I’m coming for you, Charleston!

Myrtle Beach, SC

Another destination high on my list this year – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Yes, I’m a Florida girl that wants to go north to visit the beach.

When I was in college, this was “the” beach for us to visit each year and I have a lot of special memories from my time there. I’d love to explore it now with my girls. I have good friends that perform nightly at the Carolina Opry and I’ve been promising them for years that I’m going to visit — I’m determined to make the trip in 2017.

And once I told my husband that the Myrtle Beach area had more than 100 championship golf courses, he was ready to throw his clubs in the car. Fun and sun for sure!

Our girls are getting old enough to finally appreciate the fun of water parks — and I’m thrilled at the thought of their first visit. Universal’s Volcano Bay water park is set to open in the early summer of 2017 with the 200-foot Krakatau volcano as its centerpiece. As you drive along I-4 in Orlando, you can’t miss seeing the massive slides and volcano.

From the massive slides like the Ko’okiri Body Plunge featuring a 70-degree fall through a drop door and 125 feet of thrills to the kiddie slides in the Tot Tiki Reef toddler play area, and Runamukka Reef area for older children with geysers, water guns, slides and dump cups – it sounds like an adventure!

Nashville, TN

I’ve often said that Nashville, Tennessee is my all-time favorite city in the country. I’m a huge music lover and the Country Music Hall of Fame and the live music scene in Downtown is pretty incredible. Sure, it may be a bit touristy but I love supporting musicians that are passionate about their music in search of their ‘big break’.

A few years, I stayed at the Omni Nashville Hotel for a conference and the cozy library in the hotel’s lobby was my favorite spot in the early mornings. Fantastic books, a warm fireplace and adjacent to Kitchen Notes – home to a delicious breakfast buffet. I’m ready to return!

Great list Carrie! Nashville is always on my list as I love so much about the music traditions in that southern city. I also hope to make it to Branson this year as well as Key West.

Oh, I’ve never been to Branson but I’ve always heard great things! I hope you make it there and to Key West too – happy new year!
