Carnival Cruise Line knows how to throw a party and there was no shortage of fun last week in New York City at the official naming ceremony and gala celebrating members of the military and the Carnival Vista.
From touring the magnificent ship to a spectacular concert by Carrie Underwood and the naming ceremony – excitement was high! I had the opportunity to sail on the Carnival Vista in May, so it was fun to visit my favorite spots throughout the ship – like the RedFrog Brewery & Pub, the IMAX Theater and Bonsai Sushi too.
Miss USA Deshauna Barber Serves as Carnival Vista’s Godmother
The Lido Deck was the place to be for the official Carnival Vista ceremonies as Miss USA Deshauna Barber was formally announced as godmother of Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and largest ship. She made history earlier this year becoming the first woman serving in the U.S. military to win the title of Miss USA.
It was inspiring to hear her share the story of her journey serving in the military and growing up as a child with parents that also served. I may have cried a few tears listening to her speak – she offered a great testament, I only wish my girls had been there to hear it too.
What an honor it is to have her as the Godmother of this beautiful ship.
Carrie Underwood Celebrates Military Families with Operation Homefront
As part of the gala, superstar Carrie Underwood honored military families with an exclusive, invite-only concert onboard the Carnival Vista’s Liquid Lounge. The crowd for the one-hour show was filled with military families in culmination of Honor. Family. Fun. – Carnival’s year-long celebration designed to raise funds for Operation Homefront to help the organization fulfill its mission of building strong, stable, and secure military families.
In addition to the concert, the military members also enjoyed overnight accommodations, meals, activities and entertainment courtesy of Carnival Cruise Line. (I told you it was quite the party!)
Food, Fun and Sights
During my quick 24 hours on the ship, I explored my favorite spots from our sailing in May and I discovered some new places too!
A quick stop in at the RedFrog Pub & Brewery for a pint of Caribbean Wheat beer was tops on my ‘must do’ list. It was great to see Brewmaster Colin again and learn what was new in the beer world. They are now selling beer Growlers for those interested in taking beer back to your stateroom. A Dive-In movie and a beer growler sounds like a great night to me!
One of the newest additions to the Carnival Vista wasn’t open during my short visit, but I can’t wait to try Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse on a future sailing. Only open on sea days it is particularly special because you’ll only find it on the Carnival Vista and the Carnival Magic.
Just one look at the menu and I’m already having trouble deciding what I want to eat — it all sounds fantastic. If Guy Fieri’s burgers are any indication, then I know the bar-b-que won’t disppoint me either. There’s even a hot sauce bar — that’s kicking it up a notch for sure.
It may have a been quick trip, but it was a trip filled with excitement and it was an honor to witness the official naming ceremony and honor our military too.
The Carnival Vista has such a special place in my heart — I’ve made some fantastic memories on that ship and I hope to make many more in the future with my kiddos too.
It has been an exciting journey to follow along with the completion of the Carnival Vista. And the next one, the Carnival Horizon is just around the corner – coming along for sailing in 2018.
