As mom to a child with special needs, new environments can be pretty scary for our family. I’m a big fan of the Blue Man Group show at Universal Orlando Resort, but I’ve always been hesitant to take Molly to the show. It’s a loud, upbeat, exciting show — and for a kiddo that is unsure about loud situations, we’ve usually skipped it during our visits.
I was so excited to hear that the Blue Man Group Orlando is putting on a special, autism-friendly performance benefiting the Autism Speaks foundation on December 5, 2015 at the 6 p.m. show.
For one night only, the Blue Man Group will have a slightly modified show making it an enjoyable experience for those that need to experience the show in a new environment.
What to Expect at the Show
Some of the changes include —
- Reduction of sound and light levels at various moments during the performance. Light levels will be reduced, but just a note that there will be strobe lighting during the show.
- Sound reducing headphones available upon request
- Blue Men will limit the amount of “chair walking” and keep their approach to the audience more subdued
- Calming environments in the theatre’s lobby for families seeking a break from the excitement
Buy Tickets to the Show
I’m excited about this show and so happy to hear that a portion of the proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks foundation.

What a memorable experience it was for us! This was my family’s second time to see Blue Man Group. Audience participation was great. Imagine getting your point across to so many people without speaking – incredible.
