A Look Inside: The Original Chick-fil-A Restaurant Known as The Dwarf House

Last summer, as we started planning our epic road trip, we decided to make our way through Atlanta to see an Atlanta Braves baseball game.

When it came time to plan meals, I remembered that the very first Chick-fil-A restaurant (also known as The Dwarf House) was in Hapeville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta and I knew we had to get there! I’m not sure who was more excited about our restaurant adventures – me or the kids, but I knew it was going to be something special.

Here’s a look at our experience having lunch at the original Chick-fil-A in Hapeville, Georgia – not too far from the Atlanta airport.

What to Expect Inside

When you arrive at the restaurant, you’ll notice two different areas – one that is the ‘typical’ Chick-fil-A experience that you are used to – same menu, ordering at the counter, etc.

On the other side, is the ‘original’ Chick-fil-A – a diner-like setting with a hostess stand, counter seating, booths, an extensive menu and servers ready to take your order. Besides the colors and decor, this reminded me of a typical Waffle House dining experience, definitely not the Chick-fil-A I was used to at home. And I mean that in the best way possible! (If there’s a wait, put your name on the list and take a look around the building, there are some displays with old-school things on display!)

Sit back, relax and enjoy service right at your table and if you are lucky enough to grab a sit at the counter and watch all of the kitchen action!

What’s On the Menu?

The original Dwarf House / Chick-fil-A menu is not the typical Chick-fil-A menu — it is even better than you can imagine!

In the side dishes, choose from collard greens to mac/cheese, fried okra, sweet potato souffle, baked potatoes and carrots with raisin salad.

For entrees, of course, they have the typical nuggets and chicken, but there’s a variety of things you can’t find on the usual Chick-fil-A menu.

When we visited, I ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown – chopped chicken with cream sauce, bacon and tons of cheese on top. My kids were not nearly as adventurous and they went with their typical chicken nuggets meal that they can order at home. (They were happy though, so whatever works!)

My husband ordered a hamburger – yep, that’s right – Chick-fil-A serves burgers at this original store! We almost felt guilty for ordering things that were not typical Chick-fil-A items, but this was such a unique experience and something you can’t do anywhere else.

Where is the Original Chick-fil-A Restaurant?

The first Chick-fil-A isn’t too far from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the suburb of Hapeville, Georgia. We saw a lot of airline folks coming in to grab a quick to eat and this is definitely a local’s kind of spot.

Known by its original name – the Dwarf House, it is in a great, central location between I-75 and I-85 – so it is easy to go to no matter what interstate you are traveling through Atlanta.

If you find yourself passing through Atlanta (or on vacation!), make this a stop in your trip – you’ve gotta eat right? This is a unique dining experience you literally can’t find at any other Chick-fil-A!
