It doesn’t happen nearly enough, but last week we ventured up to Amelia Island in Northeast Florida for a weekend getaway to experience the holidays and Dickens on Centre festivities. I was especially excited because it was our girls first trip to the area.
We didn’t see the sunshine during our trip (at all), but that didn’t keep us from having fun. Our ‘home’ for the weekend was the Seaside Amelia Inn, located along the beachfront with great views of the ocean.
Here’s a look at why we loved our weekend getaway at this boutique-style inn –
It may sound silly, but there is just something magical about waking up and seeing the beach outside your window. It may have been cloudy, but it was still refreshing. I laid in bed at night and could hear the ocean waves crashing – perfection!
Here’s a look at our view, just pretend it was sunny outside!
There’s even a rooftop sundeck – grab a beverage and its the perfect spot to relax and take in the views.
Free Hot Breakfast
I’m a sucker for free breakfast while I’m traveling and Seaside Amelia Inn didn’t disappoint us. From fresh fruits, pastries, yogurts and juices – the highlight of breakfast was Pete, the friendly chef on duty. He was taking orders and making great food. Hot pancakes, bacon, eggs and even grits were on the menu! Great service, tasty eats and it is included in your stay. Deal!
Speaking of food, the inn also has a grab-and-go market in the lobby for snacks and microwave food. There’s even ice cream available too.
Extra Space for Families
The three-story inn features 46 studios and suites ranging from sunset views to pool and ocean views. Our room was on the third floor with great views of the ocean and featured a separate sleeping room with a queen bed and living area with a pull-out sofa, perfect for my little ladies.
I was happily surprised to learn that each room at the inn features a mini-refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker with complimentary tea and coffee. We also had two televisions – which made for happy girls when Dad needed to watch football – he had his own space while the girls and I caught up on a Christmas movie marathon.
Location to Activities
You are only a few steps away from the beach at the Seaside Amelia Inn. Even though the weather was chilly, we took some time after breakfast to hunt for seashells and shark’s teeth. A cloud day at the beach is better than any day at home – right?
The inn is also located next door to the Sandy Bottoms Beach Bar and Grill. I hopped over one night and ordered some to-go food – they have great pizza!
The Historic District and Centre Street with local shops and restaurants is about a five-minute drive to the west of the inn. On the drive, you’ll also pass the entrance to Fort Clinch State Park, some beautiful historic homes and great public playgrounds. (My girls can spot them a mile away!)
