My 2018 Travel Wish List

by Carrie McLaren with 1 comment

As we begin a new year, my travel wish list is already filled with hopes of exploring new destinations, enjoying a few, relaxing trips and getting my fill of plenty of theme parks too.

Here’s a look at what’s tops on my 2018 travel wish list –

Biltmore Estate

While we did make it to Asheville, North Carolina in 2017, we did not make it to see the Biltmore Estate and I’ve regretted it. As America’s largest home, this 250-room estate also features 8,000 acres for exploring including a winery, restaurants, an equestrian center, accommodations and spectacular gardens. I’m ready to make my way back to Asheville to see it!

In 2018, the estate is hosting the Chihuly at Biltmore exhibition featuring multi-media artist Dale Chihuly’s magnificent glass sculptures. Taking place May 17 through Oct. 7, 2018, Chihuly’s sculptures will be on display in the Winter Garden of Biltmore House, and throughout the estate, including the Italian Garden and Walled Garden.

Biltmore will also host an evening experience in the gardens that will offer views of the sculptures after dark. Chihuly Nights at Biltmore will take place each Thursday through Sunday night during the exhibition.

Dallas, Texas

As big fans of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, I’m hoping to make it to an away game this next football season. Pre-kids (also known as PK), my husband and I would typically choose one away game to attend each year. It has been quite a few years since we’ve traveled to a game and next year’s schedule has my Jaguars playing the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium — I’ve got my eye on this game as it would be the perfect getaway.

I’ve not spent much time in Texas and a weekend visit for football, barbecue and cowboy hats sounds like a good idea to me. Plus, there are AT&T Stadium tours and I’d really love to see the inner workings of how it all works – especially on a gameday.

Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World

A new land comes to life at Walt Disney World in summer 2018 – Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! My girls and I are huge fans of Buzz and Woody’s adventures and we can’t wait to play in Andy’s backyard.

This new area makes up eleven acres and will feature a family-style coaster that looks just like Slink Dog called the Slinky Dog Dash and also the Alien Swirling Saucers ride where riders try to avoid The Claw. And of course, the favorite Toy Story Mania! ride which allows guests to aim at 3D objects in a variety of whimsical, fast-paced games. This ride is always a ‘must do’ for us.

Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

Carnival Cruise Line newest port, Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, debuted in late 2015 and it is a port I haven’t explored – yet! Located just outside of Puerto Plata, this port is said to feature some of the most extensive shore excursions available for cruise lovers.

And I’ve heard great things about the nearby Ocean World being a great way for little ones to experience marine life. There’s snorkeling and diving opportunities available too! And while I love excursions, I’m hoping to check out the bungalows available for rent at the port and that massive pool area too! The port also features a marketplace, themed restaurants and bars – all within the restricted areas for passengers. Yes, please!

What’s on your travel wish list for the new year? I’m sure my list will grow as the year progresses, but I’m excited to see where the year takes me.

Happy New Year to you! Here’s wishing you a year of travels and adventure!

You will not regret Biltmore House. We went last year and it was amazing. I can’t even believe what it would look like with the Chihuly sculptures. We’ve seen his work during a trip to Seattle and in the Bellagio in Vegas. Hope you make it out there!

PS Your Jaguars did good this year!
