My Carnival Vista ‘To-Do’ List

by Carrie McLaren with 2 comments

In between packing for our upcoming Carnival Vista voyage, I’m soaking up all of the info I can about this new ship and making a list of everything I want to experience during the trip.

The newest Carnival Cruise Line ship has a lot of ‘firsts’ from entertainment to food experiences, thrilling adventures at the water park and more. It is going to be an action-packed adventure.

Carnival Vista Things to Do

In addition to visiting amazing ports like Rome, Athens, Venice and others throughout Europe – I’ve got a long ‘to do’ list of things I want to check out onboard the Carnival Vista. Here’s a look –

Check Out the Views on SkyRide

Similar to riding a bike, SkyRide, is a first-of-its-kind aerial attraction where adventure seekers pedal their way around an elevated 800-foot long track at speeds of up to 18 miles an hour.

The views must be incredible and I’m ready to give it a try – perhaps on a sea day for the ultimate views! This experience is free of charge and looks like a ton of fun. Who wants to race? PRO TIP: Check out this cool behind-the-scenes video of how SkyRide was created and its story.

Eat All the Ice Cream at Cherry on Top

While the candy-themed, Cherry on Top shop has been on most ships for quite awhile, the Carnival Vista’s shop has something new to offer guests — a premium ice cream bar! (Yes!!) Choose from high-end toppings for mixing into your favorite ice cream flavors or choose from one of the many tasty sundaes from the fee-based menu.

For research purposes, (*wink, wink*) I’ll be trying them and report back to you. From my understanding, there’s even one sundae on the menu that was chosen specifically by the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a portion of the sales going back to that organization.

Take a Ride on the Kaleid-O-Slide

And what I think will provide even greater thrills than even the SkyRide — the Kaleid-O-Slide. This massive, inner-tube slide is the highest point on the ship zipping riders down 455 feet of  corkscrew turns enhanced by music and stunning kaleidoscopic effects. It looks incredible! Let’s hope I don’t chicken out once I get to the top.

Tour the RedFrog Pub Brewery

Since my recent trip to Raleigh, I’ve become fascinated with the beer brewing process. And yes, the drinking part is fun too. The new Carnival Vista is home to the first at-sea brewery at the RedFrog Pub – making their own beer right on the ship.

I’m hoping to get a tour of the brewery setup and of course, test out all of the new beer made on the ship. From what I’ve heard based on the first sailing, this beer is getting rave reviews from guests.

See My First Playlist Productions Show

Here’s a confession – out of all our cruise adventures, I’ve never seen one of the high-energy, nighttime  Playlist Productions shows. Shame on me! But have no fear, that’s all going to change when I set sail on the Carnival Vista.

This new ship features three, new live performances with special effects, live music and dancing. Here’s a look at Carnival’s description of each of the new shows –

  • Amor Cubano: A Caribbean Dance Romance, an exhilarating get-on-your-feet show that blends classic Latin songs with today’s hits and features an authentic reproduction of Carnival Vista’s Havana Bar. A seven-piece Cuban-inspired band performs songs by Gloria Estefan, Celia Cruz and others amid a tropics-inspired backdrop of Cuba and Miami.
  • America Rocks!, a high-energy show featuring rock anthems by American artists like Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Styx and Kiss. The glow stick-waving audience cheers on a rockin’ house band with sizzling guitars, pulsating drums and a horn section, evoking the feeling of classic rock concerts from bygone days.
  • Flick: The Power of Motion Pictures, a celebration of filmmaking with some of the greatest anthems of all time showcasing songs from popular movies like Footloose, Dirty Dancing and others.  The main character of the show, Flick, takes viewers on a magical journey through different genres of film with stunning theatrical illusions and show-stopping cinematic effects.
